Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS)

Description

A UPS provides short term power survivability in event of a power outage. OSS has partnered with Facilities to provide generator and UPS maintenance for communications equipment in select, critical locations on campus. OSS does not supply, install or maintain a UPS or batteries on behalf of other departments.

Cost

Costs will be billed at our T&M rate for all network repair calls resulting from improper operation of a department-supported UPS.

Ordering

Departments needing uninterrupted communications are encouraged to contact Facilities Operations at 645-2025 regarding your power survivability needs.

Departments opting to operate your own UPS must contact OSS before attaching it to OSS communications equipment. To arrange a consult with OSS, please use our Online Request Forms.

Requirements

If a department-supported UPS is intended to service a network switch that supports multiple departments, the sponsoring department must obtain consent of the other departments. The installation of the UPS should be coordinated with OSS. If OSS determines that a network outage was caused by a UPS, OSS will respond by moving the network switches to utility power until any UPS issue gets corrected. Frequent outages caused by a UPS may result in suspension of this agreement.
